Annual Sports Day for Aidex

We shall be attending the annual Sports Meet in October 2017.  The date is now confirmed, Sunday 15th October.  Due to the Heavy Rains over the Past 10days this may need to be rearranged  Once again OIAL will be proving a cup.

We shall all be in Sri Lanka in October 2017 - Looking at all the projects, past and new.

We shall be checking in on the English Classes to catch up in June.

An evening of Skittles is being organised in Bremhill Village Hall on Friday 18th November 2016 at 7pm.  Curry and puds will be on offer for a cost of £10 per person and all proceeds will go toward Once In A Lifetime our Sri  Lankan based Charity.

There will of course be an 'Honesty Bar' and a Raffle to add to the enjoyment of the evening.

The annual Aidex Sports day is on 9th October 29016.

Taking Place in Bremhill Village Wiltshire on 11th and 12th June.  OIAL will be one of the beneficiaries.

Our next Field Visit is planned for May 2016.  We shall be inspecting last phase and revisiting sites.

Friday 6th May - Film Night to raise funds for OIAL - film showing Brooklyn - There will also be a silent auction with a few good prizes.

LOT1:-One of Wiltshires leading first aid trainers will train you in life saving skills.  You will learn how to recogoise early signs of heart attack and stroke, treatment of unconscious casualty, the recovery position and CPR.

2hours for between 6-12 persons.  Venue of your choice subject to space.  This would normally cost about £50 per person.  Minimum bid £100 per group of 6.  Will take bids per couple or individually providing the total number is 6 or more.

LOT 2:- A fabulous 4 course dinner for 8 povvided by DINING IN at a venue of your choice.  Menu choice available on the evening.

LOT 3:- A weeks stay for 4 people in the home of Colin and Rosemarie Bray - House is fully equipped and modernised.  Located in a superb setting on the Dingle Penisula Co Kerry, Ireland in Cloghane Village - Magnificent Sea and Montain Views - 2 beds/2 Baths - Minimum bid £300

The Classes so far have been a great sucess and we are hoping for a good turn our in this village also.

The First English Lessons for two more Villages on 13th & 14th February.

The first English lesson will be held on Saturday 6th February 2016.  This will be held in the Sooriyayagama Temple in Sooriyayagama Village.

The first lesson will be introducing Alphabet Letters with some Pictures.

Yasitha Sumali who lives in Habrana and will be teaching english in the local villages.

Thrisinhagama, Moragaswewa, Sooriyagama and Ilukwewa

She will be giving lessons in each village twice a month for 1 1/2 hours per class.  This will enable children, parents and those who wish to learn the opportunity to learn English.

Children, families and friends all attended the official opening of our 6th School. Thankfully the rain held off.  The Children put on a stage productions. 

The annual Aidex sports day for the disabled which is put on and run by the Colombo Friend in need society of Colombo (CFINS) got under way at 9:00 am on Sunday 11th October. OIAL have been sponsors for some of the participants and the prizes for several years.

We had a particular interest this year because one of the participants was a young boy (14 on 11.10.15)  who is  a bi-lateral amputee, and only has one arm, whom we sponsored last year to have a plate put into his leg to facilitate him being able to use his artificial limb properly. He looked well after his surgery and was running this year in the hundred yards, under fifteen years…. He came second.

The event is organised for all the amputees and their families treated by CFINS and fitted with artificial limbs, whether arms or legs annually and is a testimony as to how they try to lead a normal life as possible.

We have been involved in this work for around seven years and have sponsored many limbs which can cost as little as £ 60 each. Janice and Ian have made it a point to attend the sports day for the last 4 years so as to physically show our support actively on this very big day for the contestants and the hard working committee of CFINS. 

Hard to belive that living on an Island some cildren haven never been to the beach or seen the sea.
